It looks like a 2008-scale event is possible but this time the Governments are responsible for it by living beyond their means and focussed on self interest (nothing new there but this time it is more divisive) at a time when people can choose to believe what they want. In the past there has generally been a national view. Time to tread cautiously and be diversified. Gordon Brown is currently talking a lot of sense – pity he is not a gifted communicator.
Chuckled at your contrarian remark
I tell my eldest daughter (a Prison Governor ) that I am a shy Conservative like her -“No Dad your not -your just a Contrarian!”
Been bond heavy for years -currently 54% of Asset Allocation
Suited my investor personality-able to sleep at night through stockmarket gyrations-probably had to save harder and live more frugally through the accumulation phase
Prioritising Pensions/Isas over house purchase was a possibly a bigger help
Still in the same small cottage after 56 years-now a perfect size for 2 retirees!
